CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - Drake University's Isaac Basten and Yinka Ajayi both won individual titles on the second and final day of the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship Sunday at the UNI-Dome.
Ajayi began the day with a win in the women's 400 meters in 54.39 to best the field by more than a second in her first MVC Championship. Her title was just the third women's 400-meter win in program history and first since 1984. She also returned to the track to anchor the Bulldogs' 4x400-meter relay that took fifth.
Basten, a freshman, chased down the lead pack in the men's 3,000 meters and made his move with 300 meters left to power past a senior from Loyola, Riley DeMeulenaere, and use his kick to create nearly two seconds of separation at the finish line.
