Zimmermann throws 80 pitches: 'Today was a good day'

Detroit – A step forward for Jordan Zimmermann. The length and significance of that step will be determined relatively soon.

Zimmermann, who was tagged for eight runs in less than two innings in his first start off the disabled list last Saturday, threw an 80-pitch simulated game Wednesday and came away pleased, if not even a little relieved.

“I threw a lot of good ones,” he said. “Way more good ones than bad ones, so that's a good sign. I feel good; that's the main thing.”

He pitched four innings, roughly 20 pitches in each, against Steven Moya, Nick Castellanos (one at-bat), John Hicks, Dixon Machado and JaCoby Jones.
