Tigers' Victor Reyes is getting more playing time, trying to make it pay off

DETROIT -- In May, Detroit Tigers outfielder Victor Reyes went nine straight days without touching the field, saw his batting average drop under .100 and probably wondered whether his brief tenure in the big leagues was nearing an end.

So being at the center of Tuesday night's celebration was a nice change for the 23-year-old Venezuelan, who was selected by the Tigers this winter in the Rule 5 Draft.

Reyes smacked a single past the shortstop to drive home the go-ahead run in the eighth inning Tuesday. He now has eight hits in his last 19 at-bats, including a double and two triples, after beginning the year just 3-for-31 with three singles.
