Tigers' Travis Wood leaves game with left knee sprain

LAKELAND, Fla. -- Detroit Tigers left-handed pitcher Travis Wood left Thursday's game after slipping on the infield grass and injuring his left knee.

The Tigers described the injury as a sprain.

Wood, who was making his spring debut after being sidelined by an offseason finger injury, was pitching in the fourth inning when he caught a line drive and then trapped a baserunner between second and third base in a rundown.

When he pivoted toward second base, he fell immediately, grabbed his leg and started writhing in pain.

Manager Ron Gardenhire and head athletic trainer Doug Teter raced out to him immediately.
