Tigers trade Aviles, Scivicque for IF Aybar

The Tigers have made a trade to upgrade their bench.

Before Tuesday night’s game against the Braves, the team acquired infielder Erick Aybar for infielder Mike Aviles and minor league catcher Kade Scivicque.

Aybar, 32, is an 11-year veteran with extensive experience at shortstop. This season, he is hitting .242 in 97 games. He is two years removed from his only All-Star appearance, with the Angels in 2014. Aybar won the AL Gold Glove Award at shortstop in 2011.

Aybar will serve as additional insurance at shortstop with Jose Iglesias out and likely will get the bulk of action up the middle in his absence.
