Tigers sign Wood to Minor League deal

Travis Wood will get a chance to compete for a roster spot for the Tigers, as the club announced on Monday that it has signed the veteran left-hander to a Minor League contract with an invitation to Spring Training.

Wood, who was released by the Padres on Dec. 20, is looking to rebound from perhaps the worst year of his career. After signing a two-year, $12 million deal to help fortify the Royals' bullpen last winter, Wood struggled to a 6.91 ERA in 28 games and was eventually traded to the Padres in July as part of the deal that sent Trevor Cahill, Ryan Buchter and Brandon Maurer to Kansas City.
