Manager Ron Gardenhire gave Candelario the days off to try to help him push through a slump. The Tigers third baseman is hitting .158 in his last 29 games.
With left-hander Cole Hamels (4-7, 4.05 ERA) on the mound for the Rangers, right-handers Mikie Mahtook and John Hicks are also in the lineup for the Tigers.
Right-hander Mike Fiers (5-5, 3.79) will be on the mound for Detroit.
