MINNEAPOLIS -- Miguel Cabrera left Friday's series opener against the Twins -- a 6-3 loss -- in the seventh inning with a right groin strain, and on Saturday, the Tigers placed the All-Star first baseman on the 10-day disabled list. The club called up infielder John Hicks from Triple-A Toledo.
Cabrera has been dealing with tightness in his back since the World Baseball Classic, but this was different. Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said that Cabrera -- who went 3-for-3 at the plate -- first felt the injury on Robbie Grossman's two-run single in the sixth, a ground ball between him and Ian Kinsler.
