DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers placed left-handed starting pitcher Blaine Hardy on the 10-day disabled list with elbow tendinitis before their game against the Minnesota Twins on Friday.
The Tigers recalled left-handed starter Ryan Carpenter from Triple-A Toledo to take Hardy's place on the roster.
Carpenter was expected to start Saturday's game in place of injured starter Artie Lewicki. Now he'll likely serve as an emergency bullpen option on Friday with his start on Saturday now tentative.
Hardy had been scheduled to start on Sunday, the series finale in Minneapolis. The Tigers could go with a "bullpen day" or shuffle the roster again to bring up another starter.
