Tigers jump on Blue Jays early, hold on to win opener 5-2

DETROIT -- Miguel Cabrera's teammates provided all the offense in his first game back from the disabled list.

The Detroit Tigers scored four runs in the second inning and Blaine Hardy made another strong start in a 5-2 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays Friday night at Comerica Park.

The Tigers (27-30) have won five of their last six and are now 18-12 at home this season. The Blue Jays (25-32) have lost four in a row.

Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias, who sat out Thursday with a hip contusion, was responsible for seven of nine outs in the third, fourth and fifth innings, vacuuming up the grounders produced by Hardy's soft-tossing arsenal.
