Cleveland — There's your reason why the Tigers didn't move veteran infielder Jonathan Schoop at the trade deadline.
The Tigers and Schoop reached a deal on a two-year extension, the club announced before Saturday's game in Cleveland. Terms weren't disclosed. Schoop is playing 2021 on a one-year, $4.5-million contract. His new deal runs through the 2023 season.
“Jonathan has been a constant professional since joining our clubhouse, and is the exact type of player we want to wear the Olde English ‘D’,” Tigers general manager Al Avila said in a statement.
