Tigers drop Fields to make room for Wilson

Detroit — Daniel Fields was once considered one of the Tigers’ brightest prospects.

Now, the former University of Detroit Jesuit outfielder’s time in the Tigers organization is over.

The Tigers designated Fields for assignment Tuesday to make room on the 40-man roster for infielder Josh Wilson.

Fields, 24, is expected to sign as a minor league free agent with another organization.

After a torrid start with the Mud Hens, Fields was promoted to Detroit and made his major league debut June 4 with the Tigers.

Fields doubled off Oakland relief pitcher Dan Otero for his first major league hit.
