Tigers cut Warwick Saupold, former Spartan A.J. Achter

The Detroit Tigers optioned right-handed pitcher Warwick Saupold to Triple-A Toledo on Monday morning, highlighting a series of moves the team made before playing the New York Mets.

Former Michigan State standout A.J. Achter, a right-handed pitcher and non-roster invitee, was also cut on Monday.

Saupold, 27, made four relief appearances for the Tigers this spring and had a 0.00 ERA and 0.88 WHIP with eight strikeouts and two walks while recording one save over eight innings. He rejoined Detroit last week after pitching for Australia in the World Baseball Classic.
