Minneapolis – There was a lot to like about the progress the Tigers made the first three-plus months of the season. After a putrid start, they posted back-to-back winning months and in general played a pretty exciting and entertaining brand of baseball leading up to the All-Star break.
They had gone 4-0-1 in their last five series. But these last four games against the Twins exposed the one facet of the game that has and will continue to hinder any true progress going forward — poor defensive play.
“When you take a step back and look at it, we have to improve our defense,” manager AJ Hinch said before the finale against the Twins Sunday.
