Bradenton, Fla. – The Tigers continue to pound baseballs over fences this spring. Problem was, the Pirates bashed a couple themselves.
The three home runs the Tigers hit Sunday went for naught as the Pirates took an 9-5 exhibition win at McKechnie Field.
Anthony Gose greeted Pirates ace Gerrit Cole, making his first spring start, with a leadoff home run to right field. Casey McGehee hit a monster shot onto the party deck in left center field off Cole in the second.
And in the fourth off left-hander Tony Watson, Steven Moya hit a line drive, two-run shot to right.
