ATLANTA – It ended with a thud.
The ball hit the catcher’s mitt and the season was over.
Justin Upton stood in the batter’s box on Sunday afternoon, with the tying run on first, and he struck out looking. He didn’t even swing. All the air came out of the balloon, and the Atlanta Braves beat the Detroit Tigers, 1-0, in their final game of the season.
“It sucks that we are not going to the postseason,” Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said. “We didn’t attain that goal. So, in that sense, we fell short.
