Former Detroit Tigers first baseman Prince Fielder, a six-time All-Star whose 319 career home runs match the total of his father, Cecil, might have played his final game due to a chronic neck injury.
Fox Sports reported that the Texas Rangers and Fielder, 32, will hold a news conference Wednesday at Globe Life Park to announce he no longer can play after a second spinal fusion surgery July 29 that already ended his 2016 season.
Fielder had his first season-ending neck surgery in 2014.
The injury likely explains why Fielder was in the midst of his career-worst season.
