Pitching prospect's new approach sparks impressive streak with Whitecaps

COMSTOCK PARK - The before and after in Brad Bass on the mound for the West Michigan Whitecaps is striking, and all thanks to believing in the advice from his pitching coach.

In three starts between July 6-21, the big right-hander from Notre Dame allowed 11 earned runs and 11 hits over 17 innings.

In three starts since, he's a changed pitcher - no runs on nine hits.

With 21 2/3 scoreless innings overall, Bass' start at home Thursday against Lansing is worth watching.

"Oh, I honestly don't overthink it," Bass said with a laugh before Wednesday's game.
