The Tigers pitched to the one guy they shouldn’t let beat them.
He beat them.
Trailing 2-0 in the second inning with runners on second and third with two outs, the Tigers opted to pitch to Brian Dozier, who entered the game with 18-game hitting streak. He was already 6-for-12 in the series with two home runs and three RBIs.
Dozier hit a two-run single to extend his hitting streak to a career-high 19 games. The Twins took a 4-0 lead and Dozier’s hit ended the day for Mike Pelfrey in a spot start.
The Tigers went on to lose, 5-1, to the Twins on Thursday at Comerica Park.
