On Monday evening, Fox Sports Detroit’s closely kept secret of who would broadcast Detroit Tigers games this season — and beyond — finally leaked into the public domain. Despite the secrecy, it was no surprise Shepard, a longtime media mainstay on the Detroit sporting scene, was the man.
His cell phone began to blow up at 8:30 p.m., and as of Tuesday morning, minutes before a conference call introducing him as the Tigers’ television play-by-play broadcaster, remained buzzing with congratulations.
