Left-hander Matt Boyd is in the Tigers’ rotation.
“His first two outings were solid,” manager Brad Ausmus said. “So I don’t want to act like he’s dangling over a cliff. Nobody is going to be perfect every time they go out there.”
But with longtime teammate Daniel Norris chomping at the bit at Triple-A Toledo to return to Detroit — Norris has been solid lately, showing good stuff, the Tigers say — Boyd would be well-served to cement his spot in the rotation by stringing together a few good starts.
The first of those will come Tuesday night against tough competition in the Blue Jays, his former team, who beat him around in an August start last season.
