Longtime New York sports broadcaster Rick Wolff dies at 71 after battle with brain cancer

Rick Wolff, a longtime sports radio host on WFAN in New York died Monday at the age of 71 after a brief bout with brain cancer, his family announced.

Wolff began hosting "The Sports Edge" program Sunday mornings on WFAN in 1998, but had many other sportswriting and broadcasting credits to his name before that.

An outstanding baseball player in college at Harvard, Wolff spent two years in the Detroit Tigers organization and as a coach at Division II Mercy College before launching his lengthy career in sports media.

In the literary world, Wolff authored or co-authored 18 books, and served as an editor for several best-sellers, including Tiger Woods' "How I Play Golf.
