Jarrod Saltalamacchia fought off a fastball and dropped one into left field for a leadoff single. He came around to score with a little help from much-maligned White Sox starter, James Shields.
To follow the Saltalamacchia single, Mike Aviles became Shields' first strikeout victim of the night, but as Jose Iglesias appeared to ground into an inning-ending double play, Shields fired the ball past his second baseman and into the outfield, allowing Iglesias and Saltalamacchia to reach second and third.
With two on, Ian Kinsler notched a sacrifice fly to make it 7-0.
