Matt Boyd settled in and had his best inning of the night, setting Houston down in order and looking firmly in control of his pitches.
Even Gattis became Boyd's fourth strikeout victim, Colby Rasmus grounded out to second and Alex Bregman fouled out to end the inning.
Boyd and throws 75 pitches through the first four frames. If he can give the Tigers six solid innings, that puts the bullpen in good shape for this weekend series with Astros.
