Kevin McGonigle doubles twice in Whitecaps’ Opening Day victory

Keider Montero’s season debut with the Mud Hens didn’t go too well. Round Rock, the Texas Rangers Triple-A affiliate, ambushed him with four straight hits to open the bottom of the first inning, and the Hens were down 3-0 by the time Montero settled in. He threw a good game the rest of the way, striking out five to one walk, but the damage was done. Meanwhile the Hens squandered some scoring chances.

They finally broke through in the fifth as Jack Dunn and Ben Gamel started the top of the inning off with singles. A Hao-Yu Lee grounder forced Gamel at second but scored Dunn to make it 3-1 Round Rock.
