Jordan Zimmermann hit in face by line drive, leaves game

CLEVELAND -- Detroit Tigers pitcher Jordan Zimmermann was struck in the face by a line drive but was able to walk off the field under his own power after a few terrifying moments Wednesday at Progressive Field.

Jason Kipnis, the second batter of the game, hit a 105 mph line drive that struck the side of Zimmermann's face.

Zimmermann fell to the ground and lay on the mound face down, kicking his legs in pain.

The stadium went silent and players dropped to their knees in concern.

After a few minutes, Zimmermann sat up and then walked off the field under his own power.
