Lakeland, Fla. — The Tigers said goodbye to their home Grapefruit League schedule Monday with a 2-2, nine-inning tie against the Tampa Bay Rays at Joker Marchant Stadium’s Publix Field.
As so often is the case in preseason games, the light supply of visiting-team players induced both teams to call it a day ahead of extra innings.
The Tigers got both runs Monday on a pair of home runs — by JaCoby Jones in the third, and a long, high-flying belt to left-center by James McCann in the fifth that nearly landed on the Corona Cabana.
