J.D. Martinez 'not proud' after finishing last among defensive RFs

LAKELAND, Fla. – Heck yes, it bugs him.

J.D. Martinez takes great pride in his defense.

So he was concerned when he learned he was ranked by fielding analytics as the worst defensive right fielder in Major League Baseball last season.

“I’ve looked into it because I take a lot of pride in that,” Martinez said. “When I found that out, I was like, ‘How is that possible?’ ”

Martinez struggled in right field last season, finishing with a career-high six errors. It was an anomaly because it was the same number he had committed over the previous two years combined (2014-15).
