Jackson Jobe’s injury turned out to be more serious than the initial statements from the Detroit Tigers suggested. Initially reported as a right flexor tendon strain, it emerged on Wednesday that the rookie right-hander and former top prospect will undergo Tommy John surgery, ending his season.
Jobe’s last start came against the San Francisco Giants on May 28th. The right-hander allowed three runs in 4 2⁄3 innings in a game the Tigers went on to win 4-3. However, Jobe’s velocity collapsed late in the outing down to the low 90’s with his fourseam fastball.
