There were plenty of reasons to be worried about Jack Flaherty going into the Tigers' decisive Game 3 in the Wild Card Series (for one, his solid but unimpressive 3.94 ERA against Cleveland this season), but he came through in a huge way. He gave up just one run, a game-tying single to José Ramírez, and struck out four over 4 2/3 innings.
He got the quick hook when he surrendered a two-out walk with the bases empty. He'd only thrown 74 pitches and probably could've stayed in to get out of the inning if AJ Hinch wasn't being incredibly cautious.
