Ian Kinsler wants to be back in 2018, but not sure if Tigers want him

DETROIT -- Asked to reminisce about Justin Upton, his teammate, friend and clubhouse neighbor who was recently traded away to the Los Angeles Angels, Ian Kinsler quickly changed the conversation from past to present tense.

"He's not part of this team, but he didn't die," Kinsler said, before advising the questioner to stop being so dramatic.

The Detroit Tigers second baseman is far from sentimental.

He was bluntly honest when asked about his future with the club. Kinsler said he only knows for sure that he'll be in Detroit one more month.

He'd like to be here in 2018, even if it's part of a younger, rebuilding team, but he doesn't know if the Tigers want him back.
