How Justin Verlander, Kate Upton are helping Detroit's first-responders fight coronavirus

Former Detroit Tigers ace Justin Verlander and model-actress Kate Upton are teaming up to help first-responders in Detroit fight the coronavirus pandemic.

Verlander and Upton announced donations and partnerships with various organizations on Instagram on Friday, a day after positive COVID-19 cases spiked to nearly 30,000 in Michigan, including 7,383 cases and 546 deaths in Detroit.

"Like everyone, we've been following this pandemic and are really heartbroken to hear what's happening in Detroit, particularly with their police department," Verlander said in their Instagram post. "These men and women are risking their lives on the front lines for us, and a lot of them have fallen ill because they don't have enough protective equipment, so we reached out to them to see how we can help.
