DETROIT -- When former Detroit Tigers slugger J.D. Martinez hired super-agent Scott Boras just days before hitting the free-agent market this winter, there was buzz that he would be seeking a $200 million deal.
But with three weeks left until spring training, Martinez and many other free agents (high-profile or otherwise) are still unsigned. And a report this week suggested Martinez's best offer was only five years for $100 million, just half of what he was reportedly seeking.
That report by ESPN's Buster Olney was quickly disputed and it does seem astonishingly low.
