Brett Callahan played in the 2013 Little League World Series with Newark National.
His next chance to be on a World Series team may come with the Detroit Tigers.
The Tigers chose Callahan, a former Newark Charter School All-State pick and Saint Joseph’s University slugger, in the 13th round of Major League Baseball’s First-Year Player Draft on Tuesday.
Also selected Tuesday was Delaware State University third baseman Trey Paige, a Reading, Pennsylvania, resident. The 2022 MEAC Player of the Year went to the St. Louis Cardinals in the 17th round.
As a junior in 2023, Callahan was an All-Atlantic 10 first-team outfielder after batting .
