DETROIT -- Tigers starter Mike Fiers left Wednesday afternoon's game against the Reds at Comerica Park after the second inning with a left lower shin contusion. X-rays on Fiers' shin came back negative, according to the Tigers.
Fiers was hit by a line drive off the bat of Mason Williams with one out in the second. He ran to the ball that was trickling away, but didn't have a play at first. Manager Ron Gardenhire and head athletic trainer Doug Teeter jogged out to the mound. Fiers initially appeared to be OK and was even laughing on the mound before throwing a couple warmup pitches and staying in the game.
