Jim Leyland has managed a playoff game or two.
The most interesting thing, to him, about this year’s Major League Baseball playoffs is the way managers are using their bullpens.
“It shows how much the postseason is totally different than the regular season,” Leyland said in a recent interview with CBS Sports Radio. “I think that’s really been very interesting. You can do things in a shorter series — maybe not as much in a seven-game series than five — but you can do some things in a shorter series, and I think they’ve shown that.”
Bullpen usage has been the theme of the postseason since Orioles manager Buck Showalter decided against using closer Zach Britton in 11 innings of action in the American League wild-card game.
