Ex-Detroit Tigers LF Justin Upton named 2017 Tiger of the Year

Justin Upton no longer wears the Old English D, but he was voted Tiger of the Year for 2017.

Upton received 15 of the 26 first-place votes by the Detroit Chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America.

Upton is the first player since the award's inception in 1965 to be voted Tiger of the Year without finishing the season with the team.

Nick Castellanos was second with seven votes. Michael Fulmer and Ian Kinsler each received two votes.

Upton, 30, batted .279 with 28 home runs, 37 doubles and 94 RBIs over 125 games with the Tigers.
