Detroit Tigers' Travis Wood out for season with torn ACL, meniscus

The Detroit Tigers get ready for their exhibition game against the New York Yankees with some batting practice and grounders on Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2018, in Tampa, Fla.

LAKELAND, Fla. — Detroit Tigers pitcher Travis Wood’s short spring is over.

It began with a right index finger injury after a bow and arrow accident and ended on Thursday afternoon as a major left knee injury after the veteran left-hander limped painfully off the field.

The Tigers’ worst fears were realized: Wood tore the ACL and meniscus in his left knee and is weighing surgical options, according to the team.
