Here are five observations from the Detroit Tigers’ intrasquad game at Comerica Park on Friday afternoon:
1. Manning couldn’t throw strikes
Matt Manning, one of the Tigers’ top two pitching prospects, had trouble controlling his fastball. After allowing two hits in the bottom of the first inning, Manning couldn’t get through the second, exceeding his pitch limit by walking three straight batters. He ended up throwing more than 40 pitches.
