Detroit Tigers observations: New dad Tyson Ross doesn't last long in rout by Royals

It wasn’t the return Tyson Ross hoped for after returning from paternity leave and the birth of his first child earlier in the week.

Ross was shelled by the Kansas City Royals in Saturday’s game at Comerica Park, allowing five earned runs on seven hits and two walks in 1 u2153 innings. The Detroit Tigers lost, 15-3.

Ross (1-4), who last pitched April 24 at Boston, saw his ERA rise from 4.03 to 5.34. He threw 45 pitches — 25 for strikes — and had one striekout.

The bullpen wasn’t much better for the Tigers (14-16), who face the Royals again on Sunday afternoon.
