While most of Detroit was fixated next door on Ford Field for the Detroit Lions’ home opener, the Detroit Tigers played one of their most meaningful games of the season in front of a sparse crowd at Comerica Park.
With the loss, the Tigers fell to 44-104, 4 ½ games behind the Orioles (49-100) in the standings. Should that hold, the Tigers will pick No. 1 overall in the 2020 MLB draft.
In the loss, veteran right-hander Edwin Jackson was hit hard in five-plus innings and the Tigers were unable to capitalize on their early opportunities against Baltimore righty Asher Wojciechowski.
