Detroit Tigers observations: A rare lead evaporates, ugly skid continues

As the early innings went into the books Wednesday night at Comerica Park – a run here, a run there – it appeared the Detroit Tigers were on their way to snapping what has become a lengthy losing streak.

Left-hander Daniel Norris was in control, pitching with some added fastball velocity and sharp breaking balls which were handling the lowly Miami Marlins. The Tigers took a three-run lead and carried a two-run edge into the top of the seventh inning, when Harold Ramirez jumped on a Norris pitch and singled it to left field.

Almost immediately, manager Ron Gardenhire rose from his seat in the Tigers’ dugout at Comerica Park and walked out to the pitching mound to pull Norris.
