Let’s talk “replacement-level.”
That’s the term hidden in the stat “WAR” – “Wins Above Replacement-level” – and it’s basically shorthand for “a warm body you could easily pick up from free agency or Triple-A.”
Reader, there may not be a better term for this year’s Detroit Tigers, especially now that Nick Castellanos and Shane Greene have been shipped out. Most of the veterans — or at least the names we knew — are either injured <Heyyyy, Matt-Moore-Tyson-Ross-Jordan-Zimmermann-JaCoby-Jones-Grayson-Greiner-Christin-Stewart-Michael Fulmer-Blaine-Hardy…> or , um, released.
