How we remember him

Drafted out of Oklahoma State by Detroit in the fourth round in 1984, the 25-year-old right-hander debuted with the Tigers in May 11, 1987, and was a significant reason why the team captured the American League Eastern Division title. After posting an 11-3 record with a 2.98 ERA, seven saves and 75 strikeouts in 96 innings, he was named the American League Rookie Pitcher of the Year by the Sporting News.
