CHICAGO – Lefty reliever Kyle Ryan is available to pitch today for the Detroit Tigers, but he'll go on paternity leave Wednesday morning.
Ryan is taking a late flight tonight and said he plans to rejoin the team Friday night in Detroit. His wife, Courtney, is scheduled to have a C-section on Wednesday. This is will be his first biological child. Courtney has a son, Conner.
Ryan, 25, had originally planned to fly back to Auburndale, Fla. today, but the season opener was postponed on Monday due to inclement weather.
“Courtney said the process will be about eight to 10 minutes, maybe a little more,” Ryan said.
