The Detroit Tigers have claimed right-hander Carson Fulmer, a hard-throwing former top-10 draft pick they believe has the potential to provide immediate help.
The Chicago White Sox placed Fulmer on waivers Thursday. Fulmer is expected to join the Tigers today and the team will announce a corresponding move on its 30-man roster once he reports.
Fulmer, 26, has struggled since the Sox made him the eighth overall pick in 2015 out of Vanderbilt. He has appeared in 44 games in the majors with 15 starts, posting a 6.56 ERA, a 1.637 WHIP and a 6-9 record.
