When the Detroit Tigers selected Casey Mize with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 MLB draft, it wasn’t hard to envision a future in which he would be pitching at Comerica Park in two seasons.
That vision, however, has arrived in the most unexpected circumstance: Live batting practice during the Tigers’ first full-squad workout of summer camp.
He threw 20-plus pitches against Jorge Bonifacio, Travis Demeritte, Brandon Dixon and Eric Haase.
“It’s just something that, every time I toe the rubber, I want it to be out there,” Mize said.
