Detroit Tigers' bats, demeanor growing quiet as skid rolls on

ANAHEIM, Calif. — The Detroit Tigers received a talking-to late Monday night, when Ron Gardenhire began to hear something he doesn’t like to hear: Nothing.

For the first time, Gardenhire said, he yelled at the Tigers. He aired it out. Not because they can’t score runs — he knows why they can’t score — or because they’re losing — he knows why they’re losing — but because, for the first time this season, Gardenhire felt the Tigers wavering.

“We’re losing,” he said Wednesday morning. “We’re having a hard time here. But we’ve had one of the worst streaks I’ve been in — 11 in a row — and they kept playing, and the clubhouse was full and free and then all of a sudden, now it’s getting quiet.
