Detroit Tigers bail out bullpen with 4-run rally in ninth in 8-7 win over Yankees

TAMPA, Fla. — The Detroit Tigers rallied to beat the New York Yankees, 8-7, on Sunday at George M. Steinbrenner Field, evening their record at 1-1 in Grapefruit League play in spring training.

What happened

The Tigers scored two runs in both the first and second innings, thanks to Javier Baez, Spencer Torkelson and Robbie Grossman. Left-hander Tarik Skubal blanked the Yankees through his two innings.

Grossman opened the first with a four-pitch walk against Yankees starter Luis Severino, and Baez drove him in with a two-strike double — turning on the jets to reach second base — to the right-center field gap.
