Detroit Tigers appear close to promoting Jake Rogers to big leagues

ANAHEIM, Calif. — Jake Rogers, the Detroit Tigers’ catcher of the future, is set to become the team’s catcher of the present.

Over the weekend, the Tigers placed veteran Bobby Wilson on outright waivers, according to multiple people with knowledge of the situation. Wilson’s waiver period is set to expire Tuesday at 1 p.m.

With Grayson Greiner on the 60-day injured list, the team will only have one healthy catcher — John Hicks — on the 40-man roster. All indications are Rogers will assume Wilson’s spot on the 40-man roster, perhaps making his major league debut as soon as Tuesday night against the Los Angeles Angels.
